About Jackson Arts Council

Our mission is to strengthen our community through arts and culture.

The Arts Council is committed to:

  1. Providing resources to strengthen the arts and culture nonprofit sector

  2. Advocating for the expansion and growth of the arts

  3. Promoting local arts organizations and artists

  4. Creating equitable opportunities to participate in the arts

  5. Developing the infrastructure and financial means to support the mission, vision, and goals of the Jackson Arts Council

Our Vision:

We seek to be an umbrella organization of support and advocacy for arts groups, artists, and cultural institutions. Through our services, we envision every individual in our community having impactful cultural experiences through engagement with the arts.

History

The Jackson Arts Council was chartered by the State of Tennessee December 13, 1967, for “the purpose of fostering, promoting and encouraging the development of the arts; to stimulate and foster public participation in the arts; to assist the cultural and educational organizations in teaching and development of art; and to assist in the establishment of cultural facilities.”

Since that time, we have raised millions of dollars for the arts, brought hundreds of thousands of dollars of grant funding to this region for the arts, built a cultural arts center in Jackson, hosted hundreds of arts and culture events, and provided arts advocacy locally, state-wide, and nationally for our region.
