Porchfest
There are few things more perfect on a September night than live music on a front porch, and this year, we're continuing with one of our new favorite traditions with the 9th Annual Porchfest, presented by Hiller Plumbing, Heating, Cooling and Electrical, on September 12th, 2026!
Enjoy FREE and family-friendly music from local musicians throughout the midtown neighborhood on Edenwood Dr. and Wildwood Ln. Join in on the fun as long as you'd like, moving from house to house with your own lawn chair or picnic blanket and grabbing snacks from local food trucks.

2026 Celebration of Native American Culture
Sept. 18-19, 2026
Join us for a two-day festival offering visitors a one-of-a-kind culture experience, highlighting the rich traditions and history of Native American communities across the nation. Join us at Discovery Park of America as we honor and celebrate the rich history and traditions of Native American culture for the fourth year in a row. This immersive event offers engaging activities, captivating performances and educational opportunities for visitors of all ages. The events will take place on the south side of the park over the course of two days.
Event Highlights:
-Traditional Dance: Witness the energy and beauty of Native American dance. Performers will showcase traditional regalia and share the stories behind each movement during three sessions: 1 on Friday and 2 on Saturday.
-Storytelling Sessions: Enjoy captivating tales passed down through generations, bringing the history and values of Native American tribes to life.
-Vendor/Activities Tent: Explore the entire park, where vendors will feature Native American crafts, goods and interactive activities while demonstrators and others fill up the entire park and its grounds.
-Art and Craft Demonstrations: Watch skilled artisans create intricate beadwork, pottery and other traditional crafts.
-Educational Exhibits: Discover displays that highlight the history, innovations and contributions of Native American communities.
-Interactive Workshops: Participate in hands-on activities such as learning Native American songs, drumming or creating simple crafts inspired by traditional designs.
-Food and Beverages: Enjoy a selection of Native American dishes and beverages, available for purchase from Native American food vendors.
Ticket Information: Native Americans with a CDIB or any other certificate of tribal affiliation card will receive free admission.

Jackson Symphony Music Academy
The Jackson Symphony Music Academy is excited to launch a new Regional Music Center in Madison County, offering FREE beginning violin instruction for students ages 6–8 starting in August 2026.
Led by Tamás Kocsis, Director of Strings for The Jackson Symphony Music Academy and Concertmaster of The Jackson Symphony, this new program gives young musicians the opportunity to build a strong musical foundation in a fun, encouraging environment. No previous experience required.

Writers Night at the Carnegie
Join us for our Writers Night on August 29 at 6:30pm! Hear from authors Patricia L. Hamilton and Chris Bailey. Patricia L. Hamilton is the author of The Distance to Nightfall (Main Street Rag), Even Now (Kelsay Books), and the forthcoming chapbook Voiced (Kelsay). She won the 2015 and 2017 Rash Award in Poetry and has received three Pushcart Prize nominations, along with other recognitions. A retired Professor of English, she has published in numerous poetry journals in the U.S. and abroad. She and her husband have resided in Jackson since 2001.
Chris Bailey holds an MFA in Fiction as well as a Ph.D. in Composition. Originally from Toronto, Canada, Bailey now resides in Tennessee, where she teaches English at Union University. Her most recent short stories have appeared in Big Muddy, Flyway Journal of Writing and Environment, and Press Pause. She’s also published several book chapters and articles on creative writing as well as five young adult novels. Her latest YA novel, Burning Little Lies, is a Moonbeam Award-winning novel in YA (Artemesia, 2024). She is also the 2024 recipient of the Rick Bragg Prize for Nonfiction. Before teaching, Bailey worked as a journalist and as a marketing/PR writer.
